Why does this site exist?

A logical question...

The-Escape.org came about as the idea of a few of the moderators of the former Godplace.com chat server. Due to real life, the site owner didn't have the time to to commit to the site (and believe me, it takes a lot of time), so it sadly became stagnant. Then, the chat server was closed, and we stepped up.

The-Escape.org was turned on in October of 2003, at the keyboard of Jerry Horn, who spent "quite a few hours" configuring server settings late one night and into the morning. Andrew Brigmond contributed to the visual aspect of the site with an awesome template, which was used to launch the site, and with a new template for the final site implemented in February of 2004.

For the tech geeks out there, this site runs on a Red Hat Linux dedicated server that's located pretty much in the center of the United States, in St Louis. Apache, MySQL, PHP and Typo3 are used to present the webpages and content you see before your eyes, and UnrealIRCD powers the chat server at irc.the-escape.org. Sadly, due to the busy schedules of our staff, we cannot help you setup servers of your own. Please use the support forum of the software you want to use. Or, for your church or christian group, we can provide chat room hosting on our private server.

Who runs this awesome site?

Well, we try to remain anonymous (hard to do with our photos plastered on Post Office walls), but we realize that you may be curious, or want to thank us for the time and effort we commit to making this site a helpful resource for the christian internet community.

Rhayne and Nate are the co-founders. As such, they authorize any new features added to The-Escape.org, and oversee the conduct rules on the chat and forums.

Rhayne was a member of the chat on UPCI.com and later became an Op on Godplace.com. She is very committed to The-Escape.org, and feels that having an Apostolic community for all ages is important. However, because of all the other ministries she participates in, as well as work and family, she isn't able to spend as much time on the site as she would like, so you may not see her around alot. She also works as a youth leader at her church and also is involved in a Home Mission's in Kenner, LA helping with the music and any other area she might be needed.

Nate was a member of the chats on UPCI.com, an admin on pkministries.com and godplace.com, and feels that the internet is an untapped place for ministry and bringing others to Christ. He is also a former evangelist and youth pastor who has a burden for youth and particularly preachers kids. He is married to a music director and has two children that love to quote scripture. He has admin access throughout the chat and website, and contributes articles regularly.

Jerry is the Server Admin, which means if something breaks, it was probably his fault. Jerry has a computer background starting in the early 1990s, and has skills in Graphic Design, Publishing, Image Editing, Website coding, and more. He's the brains behind new features and all-things coding. He works primarily on behind-the-scenes stuff that makes this site run like the well-oiled and slightly noisy site that it is. Jerry is an amateur photographer, and hopes to make it big as a professional photographer. (wishlist) (personal website)

Aaron and Brannon are also code-monkeys, working on behind-the-scenes stuff.

Aaron is who Jerry calls to bail him out when something messes up, and also has admin access throughout The-Escape's chat and website. Aaron runs a home network with Linux, Windows, and Macintosh systems. Aaron enjoys long walks in the park, Christmas, Dr Pepper, and Batman movies. (wishlist) (personal website)

Brannon is a chat room moderator, in addition to working on various coding projects (mostly on cool behind-the-scenes stuff). (wishlist) (personal website)

Drew helps on the graphics end, primarily with the site template. In real life, he works for a publishing company, and is a freelance graphic designer on the side. (personal website)

If you would like to thank us, please consider supporting our server, or getting us something from our wishlists. Your support to our server helps us provide our website, chat and forums for FREE to thousands of people, world-wide. By helping through a personal wish-list, you let us know what you appreciate our hard work and hours of time, and give us a big incentive to keep working.
